Identify inconsistencies is a process designed to help the organization understand variance from plan. Compare the work done against the original iteration and project plan and report the variation. This data is used elsewhere in the process to help learning, and improvement in analysis, planning, and estimating for future iterations and projects.
Entry Criteria
- The set of scenarios, qualities of service, and all other product requirements for the project.
- The project plan including all commitments, schedule, and budget.
- The project reports from the project portal (and data warehouse).
Sub-Activities
|
1 |
Compare Work Done Against Work Planned |
- For both the current iteration and the project as a whole, take the originally committed requirements and project plan and compare them to the actual events.
- Use the iteration and project reports in the project portal as evidence of actual work done.
|
2 |
Identify Variance |
- Identify where the actual work done varies from the plan and original commitment. Note the size of the variation.
- For example, if plans were made based on a velocity of 2 scenarios per developer per week, and actuals reflect that only 1.8 scenarios per week was achieved, the variation in velocity is -0.2 or -10%.
- Variations in all the project plan commitments such as scope and schedule as well as all the project metrics reflected in the standard reports e.g. Unplanned Work, should be compiled.
|
3 |
Report Variation |
- Report the variation in actual work against plan.
